Job Summary:
The Civil Engineer is responsible for designing, planning and supervising the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects. Civil engineers ensure that projects are safe, sustainable, and meet regulatory standards while being delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Design and Planning: Develop detailed designs, blueprints, and technical drawings for infrastructure projects. Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and environmental impact assessments. Collaborate with architects, surveyors, and other engineers to define project specifications.
- Construction Supervision: Oversee the construction process to ensure adherence to design, safety, and quality standards. Monitor progress and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Manage contractors, subcontractors, and construction teams on-site.
- Structural Analysis: Analyse the structural integrity and stability of designs. Calculate load and stress factors to ensure safety and durability. Recommend materials and construction techniques suitable for project conditions.
- Compliance and Permitting: Ensure projects comply with local, national, and international building codes and regulations. Obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction activities. Address and resolve compliance-related issues during the project lifecycle.
- Budgeting and Cost Estimation: Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and project timelines. Identify and manage cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality. Track expenses and manage resources to ensure financial efficiency.
- Risk Management and Problem Solving: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Address on-site challenges and resolve technical issues during construction. Implement solutions to improve project efficiency and safety.
- Maintenance and Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of completed structures to ensure functionality and safety. Develop maintenance plans for infrastructure to prolong their lifespan. Recommend upgrades or repairs when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Proven experience in civil engineering projects, including design and construction.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro).
